Spanners CD cover

Spanner, one of the bands Richy JJ Ray is in, have commissioned me to produce the inlay for their new CD, out sometime soon. They play an anarchist punk/ska sound and have a highly political agenda so a lot of the imagery I’m working on at the moment involves the band logo IE; a spanner and cogs, which represents the old concept of a ‘spanner in the works’

Originally I started working on this project with a conventional 2D approach but then at the end of the first meeting Ben (guitar, vocals) said “some 3D stuff would be good” as he had seen me working with Blender. Grate idea, I started by modeling the band logo and I really liked the whole cog thing and I started thinking about that Charlie Chaplin film where he ends up inside a machine, so far this is what I’ve done….

Blender model of my drums pt2

Latest renders of my drum kit modeled with Blender, I decided that the drums needed a few friends so now we have the bass and guitar on stage at what looks a bit what the backroom of the Brewhouse used to look like. Also started to add a band, the man in the blue suit (low poly model) is now in the drums but this project is on hold for a bit as I’ve started work on a commission…. See next post

My Drum kit modelled with Blender

This is a project that’s ‘on going’ it’s pretty close to the real thing although the shells are dark grained wood effect at the moment rather than the stars and stripes. Yes I know I don’t use any tom drums, now and again I may use a floor tom but that’s very rare, I like to travel light. This kit packs up in to two parts and the whole thing can be carried in one go; the snare, stool seat and cymbals all fit in the 20ince kick drum. Everything else folds up and fits in to a small trunk including the small rug the whole kit sits on.

I started using this kit set up back in 1993 at the start of NOSEBLEED when me and Tone Def was writing songs and Tone Def made the suggestion that I dump the toms and extra crash cymbals. He was so right, it improved my drum skills no end and made me a much tighter drummer as I was no longer overwhelmed by the choice of things to hit.

A man walks in to a pub….

Did you hear about the drummer who locked his keys in the van?

He had to break a window to let the bass player out!

6 billion and counting

I am the prophet of doom! I am the architect of the future and you are all going to die by your own hands not mine. Each and every one of you is guilty of something and I am here to judge you all, the sentence is death, the executioner is you.
